If you have been waiting to take advantage of the Fifth Anniversary Sale at 1010 Washington Wine & Spirits, in downtown Minneapolis, the time is NOW!! The Sale ends Sunday afternoon, January 26th.
The sale was simplified this year because of the uncertain nature of our computer conversion (which is getting closer every day!). The good news for us was that Don, Mitch, Darren and Cory didn’t have to go through every single price in the store, and we didn’t have to spend a whole day hanging pink sale tags on so many items. The good news for our customers has been that those who took advantage of our 20% discount either by buying an assorted case of wine, or by filling our “magic bag”, clearly bought their wine at a better price than in previous sales.
The opportunity continues through Sunday!
I sat down Monday morning to compose this post with the threat of 100% tariffs on European wines and spirits hanging over our heads. I don’t mind telling you that my mood was as pessimistic as it ever gets. At 1:30PM on Monday, my email box exploded with notifications that Presidents Macron and Trump had come to an agreement to avoid the tariffs on "luxury goods" (read: Champagne) this year!! There was no mention of the more universally applied tariffs on other wines and spirits from the EU, but the general sense is that all FURTHER tariffs are on hold at this time.
Of course, the 25% tariff that was imposed in October continues, but somehow that doesn’t seem so terrible now compared to what was threatened. I have had to rewrite this post twice now to give you a more accurate accounting of the threat to our beverage choices. Cooler heads have prevailed for the moment, but stay alert as there is no telling what happens next. For the moment we can go back to the real business of trying to bring you the best things to drink in the world. There are lots of good things that can happen in 2020. Hopefully, this is just the first!
